These sessions will give you the confidence to select and interpret
relevant laboratory tests in a variety of clinical scenarios to enable
accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment plans for your patients.
Case discussions will be included.
At the end of the course you will be able to use pattern recognition
of laboratory findings to guide diagnoses and recognise and interpret
normal and abnormal findings on a blood smear. You will also be able
to interpret normal and abnormal leucograms, identify abnormal
haematology results and list possible underlying reasons for those
abnormalities. The course also includes how to identify different types of
anaemia, thrombocytopaenia, haemostatic diseases and how to assess
renal function and liver disease through biochemical results. Urinalysis
and electrolytes are also included. You will also learn how to differentiate
between inflammatory, secretory and neoplastic effusions from a
cytological smear.
