This course is intended for the experienced surgeon, looking to take the step into neurosurgery. You will learn how to perform a ventral slot, hemilaminectomy and dorsal laminectomy. The course is practical and theoretical.
During these two days, we will take you through the basics of how to manage dogs with intervertebral disc herniations. The course is mixed with theory and wet labs so that you will get the experience to practice the surgical procedures on cadavers under supervision of a team of experienced neurosurgeons.
We will talk about the pathophysiology, diagnostics, treatment (surgical and conservative) and the post-operative care.
The focus will be on Hansen Type I and II hernias where we will teach the basic cervical ventral slot, thoracolumbar hemilaminectomy and lumbosacral dorsal laminectomy.
This course will be taught in English.
International IVC Evidensia staff will be given preference in registration. Registrants from other institutions will be considered and notified of acceptance after registration before 01-04-2025.
Programme
- Day one – theory in the morning and wet lab in the afternoon. Focus on thoracolumbar surgery and dorsal laminectomy during the wet lab.
- Day two – theory in the morning and wet lab in the afternoon. Focus on cervical ventral slots during the wet lab.
Details
Target audience: Veterinarians, working at an IVC Evidensia veterinary hospital. Having preferably 4+ years of experience in general surgery and having access to a CT-and/or MRI-scanning facilities at place of work.
International IVC Evidensia staff will be given preference in registration. Registrants from other institutions will be considered and notified of acceptance after registration before 01-04-2025.
